GET COURT READY FOR PROFESSIONALS

DOMESTIC ABUSE IS NOT A GENDER ISSUE

Preconceptions about domestic abuse must be dispelled to accurately observe domestic abuse.

PARENTAL ALIENATION IS REAL

This is a deeply damaging method of control which impacts children and parents for life.

ABUSERS PERFORM WELL IN COURT

Often the abuser shows themselves as calm and rational in court for the purpose of getting professionals on their side.

Most Family Court Solicitors Know That Outcomes For Families Are Not Great Right Now

With lengthy delays and regular changes in personnel, it can be hard to find resolutions which last and which don’t add to the conflict.

If you’re like most solicitors, then you are probably overloaded with cases and spread very thinly, which can be especially difficult with domestic abuse cases or cases involving high conflict individuals which are complex and require more of your time and energy.

You might be feeling like you aren’t able to give your clients the attention you would ideally like to and that can have an impact on your own well-being. You chose the legal profession because you believe in justice for all and yet you probably feel like that isn’t happening right now.

The recent Ministry of Justice report “Assessing risk of harm to children and parents in private law children cases" detailed massive failings in the system designed to protect and safeguard families and in particular children.

I doubt any of it came as a surprise to you!

It didn’t to me either. I have been working with families involved in private law proceedings for the last few years (and prior to that in public law proceedings) and, although I believe the report didn’t fully address the experiences of fathers in family court, the findings accurately portrayed the stories I hear from my clients on a daily basis.

It was due to hearing so many of these harrowing stories of injustice and betrayal by those trained and charged with protecting these families at a highly stressful time in their lives, that I created the Get Court Ready programme.

I wanted to “level the playing field” for all victims of abuse. To ensure that they felt more confident in presenting their evidence in a way which didn’t play into the false narrative of them being an abuser or unstable. To provide tools to help them emotionally recover whilst being exposed to more trauma.

As an ex social worker, I also wanted to help the system recover. I know that the majority of people who work within the Family Court arena care about people. They want the best outcomes. The present system isn’t helping anyone and I decided there must be something I can do about that.

The Get Court Ready Professional Partner Programme gives you the opportunity to help your clients navigate a broken system and emerge with more confidence, clarity and credibility.

PREPARE YOUR CLIENTS WITH GET COURT READY

When clients work through the Get Court Ready program they can accurately document coercive control in a way that courts can recognise.

Clients get better outcomes for themselves and their children because they are able to show the reality of the situation rather than the abusers narrative.

The benefits of Get Court Ready:

It is the only fully inclusive programme of it’s kind so is accessible for all

We believe that victims come from all walks of life, socio-economic backgrounds, races, genders, sexuality and ages.  Our course is fully inclusive.

It empowers the client to take control of their own lives through the court process and beyond into the co-parenting relationship

You know that the court is only one part of the jigsaw in these cases and even with a solid court order, your client needs the skills to be able to manage their ex without the constant need for legal intervention.  Our course empowers them with those lifelong skills.

It is free to the client meaning everyone has access to the same support

Not everyone has unlimited funds and even if they do, their ex might be restricting access and dragging them through complex financial hearings, meaning they need to make smart financial decisions sometimes at the detriment of their case.  As a Profession Partner, you can offer our course for free to your clients so they don't have to miss out on what they need.

It reduces your exposure to the trauma, thus reducing your stress levels and the risk of vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue

High conflict cases take their toll on case holders including solicitors.  Get Court Ready provides a buffer for yourself or your team to put boundaries in place to protect their long term mental-health.

It stabilises the client for the “in between” hearing times, which is when they are most vulnerable

You can't be with your client 24/7 and often it is those "inbetween" times where they can react inappropriately, damaging their case.  Get Court Ready will help them to develop the skills and emotional resilience to manage their ex more effectively as well as professionals, helping you to get reports which reflect the reality of the case.

It organises the evidence making it easier to create a clear strategy and present the strongest parts of your case faster

Most clients in high conflict cases come armed with reams of evidence but, due to their trauma, are unable to coherently organise it and thus it's relevance is hard to distinguish, meaning you often miss hugely important aspects which, when revealed later, seem like retaliation rather than delayed recall.  Get Court Ready provides the tools to help them record and then organise evidence into relevance in terms of strength and value from a forensic perspective.  It also helps them to translate this into child focused language.

It gives the clients the tools to manage their emotions and regulate themselves without relying on you or the outcomes

Most clients in these types of cases have developed complex PTSD which is further exacerbated by the court process.  This presents as a flight, flight, freeze or fawn response in court which can easily be manipulated to "confirm" an abusive exes narrative about them.  Get Court Ready has psychological and somatic healing tools to help them recognise and regulate their emotional responses, helping them present as calm, confident and coherent.

It reduces the length of time spent in the court arena as there is more clarity from the start

Once a client becomes more emotionally regulated, they are able to present their evidence in a clear and meaningful way which often results in their ex becoming more and more dysregulated and emotionally explosive, helping to reveal the truth must faster and obtain a court order which reflects the real risk of an abusive parent.

It enforces strong boundaries between you and your client so that you can focus on managing the case rather than the client

Many victims of abuse are looking to you to rescue them from their abuser and as such, they can begin to rely upon you for their emotional regulation.  Without strong boundaries, many solicitors are easily drawn into the drama and can become overly invested in the case, which will result in long term stress.  Get Court Ready is that boundary.

It is an ongoing resource which they can access forever

In high conflict cases a Final Order is rarely the end of the matter and you will probably find your client back in court within the year.  Get Court Ready has lifetime access so you can simply remind them to log in and revisit the modules most relevant to them.
